Prokurative, Split's Venetian square
Highlights
- A square compared to Venice's piazza
- Neoclassical arcades on three sides
- Open toward Split's working harbour
- Concerts and markets, still held here
- Split beyond the palace walls
About this tour
This session walks Prokurative, a neoclassical square in Split often compared to Venice's main piazza, arcades on three sides and open toward the harbour on the fourth. You see the arcades themselves and then the open side, still used for concerts and markets today. It is a square that gets far less attention than the palace despite sitting minutes away.
We start under the arcades with a sound check, then move to the open side for the second stop, taking questions about the square's design and its current use. A short note follows once we finish.
It suits anyone who wants Split beyond the palace walls specifically. It also works well as a short add-on to a longer historical session.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Split before heading out.
-
The arcades 15 min
The camera follows the neoclassical arcades lining three sides of the square, and I explain why it is often compared to Venice's main piazza.
-
The open side 15 min
We move to the square's open side facing the harbour, and I point out how it still fills for concerts and markets today.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Split: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Dalmatian pršut and Diocletian's Palace, worth a slower look.
Good to know

- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.

- Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
