About this tour

This session crosses St Salvator's Quad before slipping down a quieter college close, looking at the university's older buildings away from its more visited corners. You see the grass quad and the initials set into its cobbles, then a smaller courtyard most visiting families walk straight past. Euan explains how the college buildings grew up around the town's existing streets.

After a short sound check in the quad, the walk moves at a relaxed pace toward the close, with room for questions throughout. Euan answers as you go and sends a short note afterwards on the quad's traditions for graduating students.

It suits anyone interested in university history beyond the famous names associated with it, and works well for prospective students. It also appeals to architecture fans.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of St Andrews before heading out.

  2. St Salvator's Quad 21 min

The camera crosses a grass quad framed by the university's oldest buildings. Euan points out the initials set into the cobbles that students traditionally avoid stepping on.

  3. A quiet college close 21 min

A narrow close leads off the quad toward a smaller, less visited courtyard. Euan explains how the university's buildings grew piecemeal around the mediaeval street pattern.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about St Andrews: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Scotch whisky and The Links, worth a slower look.

  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.

  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
