What one bridge survived, and what one house hid
Highlights
- A bridge stranded among newer buildings
- Equipment from a difficult period, shown plainly
- Two kinds of survival, explained
- What remains from before the city grew
- History told without exaggeration
About this tour
This session pairs one of the city's oldest surviving structures with one of its more recent, difficult ones. You see a small Ottoman-era bridge stranded among newer buildings, then a former surveillance building nearby. It moves between two very different kinds of survival.
I explain how the bridge ended up in its current setting first, then move to the surveillance building and describe its exhibits plainly. Questions about either period are welcome throughout.
This suits anyone who wants Tirana's history explained honestly across two very different periods. It also suits anyone curious about what actually remains from before the city grew to its current size.

-
Tanners' Bridge 21 min
You see a small stone bridge from the Ottoman period, the kind of structure that once crossed a river long since redirected elsewhere, and I explain how it ended up stranded among much newer buildings.
-
House of Leaves 21 min
The camera reaches the former surveillance building, and I point out some of the equipment on display without dwelling on anything beyond what is actually shown.
-

Time to ask anything about Tirana: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Fërgesë and Blloku, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Tirane time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
