About this tour
This session follows the city's second, quieter canal, favoured by residents over visitors and lined with grand houses set back behind private gardens rather than shops and cafes. You see the calmer stretch of water and then a hidden courtyard garden tucked just behind one of the houses. It is a slower, more residential counterpart to the busier canal in the centre.
We walk slowly, since there is little passing traffic to compete with and the mood is the point of the session. I keep talking to a minimum near the courtyard garden so you can just take it in.
It suits viewers who have already seen the busier canal and want a calmer contrast. It works well as a short add-on to a longer session in the old centre.
