Musée de la Castre, the view from an old watchtower
Highlights
- An eleventh century tower still standing
- A view once used to watch for ships
- Fortifications lost, the tower kept
- Le Suquet's rooftops from above
- History climbed one level at a time
About this tour
This session climbs Musée de la Castre, from the eleventh century tower built by monks who once controlled Le Suquet to the panoramic terrace at its top. You see how the tower survived while the fortifications around it did not, and how the view was once functional rather than scenic. It is a short, vertical session built around one building's long history.
We move steadily upward, pausing at each level for a different angle before reaching the terrace for the full view. I answer questions about the tower's history as they come up. A short note on what the museum holds follows the call.
This suits anyone who wants a proper view of the bay along with some real history behind it. It also works well paired with a walk through Le Suquet just below.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Cannes before heading out.
-
The eleventh century tower 21 min
The camera looks up at the stone tower built by the monks who once controlled this hill, now the centrepiece of a small museum. I explain how the building survived while most of the surrounding fortifications were lost.
-
The panoramic terrace 21 min
From the top, you get a full turn across the bay, the islands and Le Suquet's rooftops below. I point out how the view was once used to watch for ships long before it became a tourist stop.
-
Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Cannes: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Tarte tropézienne and Le Suquet, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Paris time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
