About this tour

This session is a Thessaloniki food walk from breakfast bougatsa to the last bite of trigona panoramatos. The camera moves through a bakery, the Kapani and Modiano markets, and a table by the port before finishing at a shop known for its cream-filled pastry cones. Each stop follows what people in the city actually eat through a day.

The call starts with a sound check, runs the four stops in the order food is eaten across a day, and leaves room for questions as each dish comes up. A short list of the bakeries, stalls and shops shown goes out afterwards.

This suits anyone planning to eat their way through Thessaloniki, or anyone who already has and wants to see the same counters again. It also suits someone who simply likes watching a city through its food without needing to travel there.

Included

  • Live video session with a local guide
  • A close look at the dishes and where locals buy them
  • A short list of places and dishes to try later

Not included

  • Food and drinks shown on camera
  • Travel to the city

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 10 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Thessaloniki before heading out.

  2. Bougatsa bakery 21 min

Early in the walk, the camera follows a tray of bougatsa coming out hot, the cream or cheese version wrapped in layers of filo, while the guide explains which one locals order for breakfast.

  3. Kapani and Modiano markets 21 min

Moving between the two historic covered markets, the camera passes stalls of koulouri, cheese pies and cured fish, and the guide points out which stallholders have been there for generations.

  4. The port 21 min

Down by the port, the camera looks in on a plate of mussels and a glass of tsipouro on a table locals have used for years, while the guide explains how the two are traditionally paired.

  5. Trigona pastry shop 21 min

The last stop is a shop known for trigona panoramatos, the cream-filled pastry cones shaped like slices of the city's Panorama district, and the camera watches one being filled to order.

  6. Your questions 18 min

Time to ask anything about Thessaloniki: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  7. A short list to keep 8 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Bougatsa and Ano Poli, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Athens time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 12 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
