About this tour

This session leaves the caldera behind for Akrotiri and the Venetian villages of Santorini. The camera moves from the entrance of the buried Bronze Age town of Akrotiri to the fortified lanes of Emporio, then up to the old kastelli above Pyrgos. It closes in a village square that tourists rarely reach.

After the sound check, the walk runs site to site in the order above, pausing for live questions between each stop rather than at the very end. A short list of the villages and how to find them follows once the call closes.

This suits anyone who wants to see the older, quieter side of Santorini beyond the cliffside towns, including people who have already done the classic caldera walk. It also suits anyone interested in how the island looked and worked long before tourism arrived.

Included

  • Live video walk with a local guide
  • Questions to your guide all the way
  • A short list of places to visit later

Not included

  • Internet connection

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 10 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Santorini before heading out.

  2. Akrotiri site entrance 21 min

From outside the covered excavation, the camera looks toward the Bronze Age town buried by volcanic ash, and the guide describes the multi-storey houses, streets and pots found intact beneath it.

  3. Emporio castle village 21 min

Inside the walls of the fortified Venetian village, the camera follows narrow lanes built for defence, and the guide points out how the houses themselves once formed the outer wall.

  4. Pyrgos kastelli 21 min

Climbing to the top of Pyrgos, the camera reaches the old kastelli fortress point and takes in a wide view over the island, away from the caldera crowds.

  5. Pyrgos village square 21 min

Back down in the square, the camera settles while the guide has a coffee at a table used mostly by residents, a quieter version of Santorini than the postcard views.

  6. Your questions 18 min

Time to ask anything about Santorini: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  7. A short list to keep 8 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Tomatokeftedes (tomato fritters) and Fira, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Athens time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
