About this tour

This session walks Ribeira and Miragaia, the old river quarter of Porto, from the medieval lanes behind the waterfront to the working streets of Miragaia and a family grocery unchanged for decades. The camera follows the Escadas do Codeçal steps beside the Fernandine wall and pauses outside the Stock Exchange and São Francisco church. It is a look at Porto's oldest riverside streets away from the busier waterfront.

The call starts with a sound check, then moves through the quarter stop by stop, with the guide explaining what has changed and what has not, and questions taken as they come. A short list of what was covered follows once the walk ends.

This suits anyone drawn to old port cities and quiet residential streets, whether planning a visit to Porto or looking back on one already taken.

Included

  • Live video walk with a local guide
  • Questions to your guide all the way
  • A short list of places to visit later

Not included

  • Internet connection
  • Travel to the city

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 7 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Porto before heading out.

  2. Ribeira's medieval lanes 21 min

The camera follows the narrow medieval lanes just behind the Ribeira waterfront, and the guide points out how the layout of these streets has barely shifted since the district's earliest years as a port.

  3. Miragaia and the Fernandine wall 21 min

In Miragaia, once home to sailors and merchants, the camera climbs the Escadas do Codeçal steps beside a stretch of the old Fernandine wall, while the guide describes the district's working past.

  4. Stock Exchange and family grocery 21 min

From the street, the camera takes in the Stock Exchange building and São Francisco church, then stops at a family grocery the guide says has barely changed since the 1960s.

  5. Your questions 14 min

Time to ask anything about Porto: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 6 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Tripas à moda do Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia, worth a slower look.

  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.

  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 12 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
