I studied Byzantine art at university and now spend most of my sessions outside the Norman Palace, since the chapel's mosaics can only be filmed from photographs and descriptions rather than live. On camera I hold on the palace's exterior and the courtyard, then describe the gold mosaics inside in enough detail that you get a real sense of them even without seeing them directly on screen. I find people are usually more patient with this than I expect, since a good description can carry a lot of the wonder itself. I have guided here for three years.
