I studied urban history with a focus on medieval Genoa, so the caruggi, the dense maze of alleys at the city's core, are what I know best on camera. I walk without a fixed route through the narrowest streets, explaining how the layout was designed for defence as much as daily life. On a shorter call, I also cover the hidden squares and small chapels tucked behind the alleys, easy to miss without knowing where to look. I keep my pace unhurried, since the caruggi reward wandering more than a straight line. I answer questions about the layout's history throughout.
