I grew up a short walk from the Tombs of the Kings and used to cut through the site's edges on my way to school before it was fenced properly. On camera I follow the public perimeter path around the underground tombs, explaining that despite the name they were built for wealthy Hellenistic and Roman citizens rather than royalty. I then move to the coastal path above, where the sea cliffs give a different sense of why this exact spot was chosen for burial. I keep my pace slow near the tomb openings, since the site rewards patience over speed.
