I have watched flamingos gather on the Salt Lake every winter since I was a child, and I still time my calls around when the largest flocks tend to arrive. On camera I walk the lake's edge, explaining how the water level changes dramatically between wet and dry seasons and why that shift is what draws the birds here at all. I like keeping a respectful distance so the birds stay undisturbed on camera rather than scattering. I answer questions about migration patterns more happily than almost anything else I guide, since so few visitors ever ask about them properly.
