I studied architecture at a university two streets from Senate Square, so climbing those steps for a class was a weekly habit long before I ever guided anyone up them. On camera I hold the frame wide enough to catch the whole neoclassical composition Carl Ludvig Engel designed, since the square only makes sense as a single plan rather than separate buildings. I explain the cathedral's white dome against the square's symmetry, stone by stone if a question calls for it. I keep the pace unhurried, since this square rewards standing still more than walking it quickly.
