I grew up in a mixed neighbourhood not far from the old bazaar, so I switch comfortably between Macedonian and Albanian depending on who I am talking to. On camera I show the bazaar's craft shops, where metalwork and leather are still made by hand, then a restored bathhouse nearby with its own domed architecture. My other session is shorter, showing Debar Maalo as its bars and cafes fill once the evening properly begins. I keep my craft sessions detailed and my evening session relaxed, and I answer questions in whichever language someone is more comfortable with.
