I have guided people around Maastricht for over a decade, first on foot and now on video, and the second way works better than I expected. I keep sessions focused on one part of the old town, explained properly, rather than rushed into an hour. I am from Limburg and speak German as often as Dutch, since so many visitors come from just across the border. On camera I hold still on a detail long enough for it to register, then move on. I like showing the layers under this city, Roman traces beneath medieval streets beneath the modern cafes.
