I studied literature and Livraria Lello is where I still spend most of my free afternoons, so I know exactly which angle catches the staircase without the queue in frame. On camera I stay outside the shop itself, since filming inside is not permitted, and describe the carved ceiling and the red staircase in enough detail that you do not need to see them directly. I follow this with a walk past other literary spots in the city that get far less attention. I answer questions about Porto's writers and publishing history as readily as about the bookshop itself.
