I grew up five minutes from the Quinconces, so I have watched the light move across the Monument aux Girondins my whole life, from the bronze horses at its base to the column above them. On camera I favour wide open squares, because a slow turn with the phone shows scale that a still photo never gets right. I plan each call for the hour when the stone looks warm rather than the hour that suits me. Viewers ask about the fountain more than anything else, and I answer while walking backwards so nobody loses the view.
