I studied Danish history at university and still find Rosenborg Castle the clearest single place to explain the country's royal past. On camera I walk the grounds first, pointing out the castle's Dutch Renaissance style, before describing what the crown jewels kept inside represent to the monarchy today. I explain how the surrounding King's Garden has stayed open to the public since the seventeenth century, unusually for a royal residence. I keep my sessions measured, since the grounds reward a slower pace than most other landmarks in the city. Video guiding here lets me show the gardens as much as the building.
