I grew up three streets back from the seafront, so the pier has been the fixed point of every summer I can remember, long before I ever thought to show it to anyone else. On camera I like catching the building just as the lights come on against a darkening sky, since that moment says more about the place than any daytime shot manages. I plan calls around the tide as much as the clock, since the beach looks completely different depending on how far the water has pulled back. Viewers often ask if the colours are real, and I always say yes.
