I have lived two streets from the Venetian Harbour my whole life, and I still time my mornings by when the light hits the lighthouse at the end of the breakwater. On camera I walk the curve of the quay first, explaining how the harbour was built by Venetian engineers to shelter galleys rather than modern boats, then follow the breakwater out to the lighthouse itself, rebuilt in an Egyptian style during the nineteenth century. I like showing how the whole harbour looks different depending on the hour, calmer at dawn than at any other time. I keep my calls unhurried, since the harbour rewards patience more than speed.
