I have worked as a harbour hand along the Thessaloniki waterfront for years, so the White Tower has always been a landmark I passed on my way to the boats rather than something I visited as a tourist. On camera I walk the base of the tower slowly, explaining how it went from fortress to prison before becoming the symbol it is today. I follow the promenade from there down toward Nikis Street, pointing out how the whole waterfront was rebuilt after the great fire of 1917. I keep my sessions steady and detailed, and I enjoy questions about the harbour as much as the history.
