Born on rue Droite, in the old town, where my grandmother sold vegetables on the Cours Saleya until she was eighty. Our family spoke Nissart at home, the old dialect that sounds halfway between Provençal and Italian, and I still use it with the stallholders. I have guided in Nice for fourteen years. Mornings I do the market and the food of the old town: socca from the wood oven, pissaladière, petits farcis, the Swiss chard pie that is sweet, which surprises everyone. Afternoons I prefer Cimiez and the Matisse and Chagall museums, because I studied art history in Aix and I never quite let it go. I keep things short and practical. I will tell you where to eat, what to skip and when the light is best on the Promenade. I do not do long lectures in the sun. Today my sessions are live video walks through Nice; you join from home, and I answer whatever you ask as we go.
