I have lived two streets from the Zytglogge my whole life, so its bells still mark my day the way they marked my grandparents' days before me. On camera I catch the astronomical figures turning a few minutes before the hour, then move under the Lauben arcades where the shopfronts have barely changed shape in centuries. I trained briefly as a clockmaker's apprentice before guiding, and it left me with a habit of explaining mechanisms rather than admiring them. I keep sessions close to the old town's tight loop of the river, since Bern rewards a slow pace. I answer questions as we go.
