About Fiona

I was born on the Isle of Lewis, where my granny spoke Gaelic to the hens and English only to the minister, and I moved to Edinburgh at eighteen to study Scottish history. I never really left. I have been guiding for sixteen years, first on the Royal Mile with a big company, and since 2015 on my own. I know the Old Town closes, the long narrow alleys off the High Street, better than my own flat. I speak English, Gaelic and French. I promise real history, not Braveheart, and a few songs if the group is in the mood. I also climb Arthur's Seat most mornings with my dog, Bran, who sometimes joins the sunrise walk. You can now join my walks through Edinburgh live on video, from any device, and ask me questions as we go.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
