Francesca Conti

I grew up shopping with my grandmother in the Quadrilatero, and I now film its narrow food streets the way she once walked them, stall by stall past mortadella hanging in whole rounds and trays of fresh tortellini folded by hand. I hold the camera close enough that you can see the pasta being shaped, then pull back so you get the noise and colour of the whole street at once. My sessions on food are really about watching a place work rather than reciting a list of dishes. I like ending near a pasta counter so the last shot is someone's hands still moving.
