I grew up in Șchei, the old Romanian quarter just outside Brasov's Saxon walls, and I still enjoy explaining why this district grew up separately from the fortified town centre for centuries. On camera I walk the quarter's older streets, pointing out the churches and houses that served a community once kept outside the main gates. I keep a warm, conversational pace and enjoy questions about how the two communities eventually merged into one city.
