I studied conservation, so the Camposanto Monumentale gets more time in my sessions than it usually gets from other guides, and I explain the old story that its soil was brought back from the Holy Land centuries ago. I film the surviving cloister arches slowly, since fire damage during the last century changed the space more than most visitors realise. I try to explain what was lost as clearly as what remains, rather than skipping past the damage. My camera work stays steady and close, since the arches themselves carry most of the interest without needing wide shots.
