I live a short walk from St Peter's Square, and after years of watching the crowds move through it I know exactly where to stand so the colonnade reads properly on camera rather than as a flat wall of columns. Since the museums and the basilica interior need tickets I cannot film past, I stay outside and describe what visitors will find once they go in themselves. At Castel Sant'Angelo I like filming from across the river, since the castle's relationship to the water explains its original purpose far better than a close-up ever could.
