Hakan Çelebi

I grew up a short walk from Vefa, where my family has bought boza from the same shop for three generations, and I trained as a guide partly to explain a drink most visitors have never heard of. I focus on the old backstreets around Fener, Vefa and Zeyrek, the parts of the historic peninsula that sit away from the main monuments. On camera I like turning down a narrower street than planned when something catches my eye, since that is usually more honest than sticking to a fixed route. I answer most questions about the neighbourhood's older communities as plainly as I can.
