Hannah Pickering

I studied archaeology at the University of York and worked on digs under the city for six years, including a few months up to my knees in Viking mud in Coppergate. Most of York's history is underground, and I like showing people how the streets above follow lines laid down by Romans, Vikings and medieval guilds. I speak English and German. My style is straightforward: good stories, correct facts, no dressing up as a Viking. I am also happy to recommend a tea room, and I have firm views on scones. My sessions now run live on video from York: I carry the phone, you watch from wherever you are and ask anything.
