I have walked out to the mounds at Gamla Uppsala more times than I can count, first as a schoolchild on a class trip and now most weeks on camera. I explain what excavation has actually shown about the site rather than the older stories attached to it, since the two do not always agree. My degree is in archaeology and I still take part in digs there most summers when the ground allows it. On a call I hold the phone low against the grass so the scale of the mounds reads properly rather than flattening into the background.
