I grew up on the Asian shore within sight of Haydarpaşa Station, a building I have watched sit closed for restoration for longer than I can properly remember. I trained as a guide to cover the station alongside Beylerbeyi Palace further along the same shore, since both show a side of Ottoman-era ambition that gets less attention than the palaces on the European side. On camera I like keeping the water between the camera and the European shore, so viewers see these buildings from the angle locals actually see them from every day.
