I have led school trips up to the Fortezza since I was a teaching assistant, so I know exactly where the afternoon light falls best across the walls. On camera I follow the fortress perimeter first, then climb toward the highest bastion, explaining how the whole structure was built after pirates burned much of the town in the sixteenth century. From the top you can see the whole horseshoe harbour and the rooftops of the old town at once. I try to time calls so we reach the summit before the light gets too flat, since the view is half of what makes this walk worth it.
