I moved from Brussels for work and stumbled onto Highgate Cemetery on a weekend walk, then spent the next few years reading everything I could find about the people buried there. Since filming among the graves calls for a lighter touch, I run this mostly as a call, talking through the more notable tombs and the cemetery's Victorian design from photographs and my own notes. I explain how the cemetery fell into disrepair before volunteers restored parts of it, a story I find more interesting than any single grave. It suits anyone with a genuine curiosity about Victorian London's relationship with death and memorial design.
