I studied art history a short walk from St Mark's Square, so the tiled roof there has been part of my daily view for most of my adult life. On camera I like showing how the coats of arms on that roof sit right beside the working Parliament building, two symbols of the country in one small square. My grandmother kept a small shop near the Stone Gate for decades, so I grew up hearing the story of the fire it supposedly survived long before I studied it properly. I keep my calls unhurried and answer architecture questions in as much depth as anyone wants.
