I worked in acoustics before I started guiding, which is probably why I still talk more about the Elbphilharmonie's shape than its programme. On camera I stand on the public plaza first, letting you see how the glass structure sits on the old warehouse base like a wave frozen mid break. I explain the building's long, difficult construction before pointing toward HafenCity's newer blocks spreading out along the water beyond it. I try to keep my sessions unhurried, since a building this reflective rewards a slow look more than a quick one. Video suits architecture better than most subjects I have guided.
