Pigalle changes completely once the sun goes down, and I have spent a decade behind different bars along the same few streets before I started filming them instead. On a call I keep the phone steady and let the neon and the noise do some of the talking myself. I answer fast and prefer short, direct exchanges over long explanations, which suits a neighbourhood that rarely slows down. French and English both work fine for me. I know which streets actually match a quiet evening and which ones do not.
