Kadri Tamm

I have been a licensed Tallinn guide for ten years, and I studied medieval history at the University of Tartu before that. Tallinn's old town is one of the best preserved in northern Europe, but most visitors see only the square and Viru street. My walk goes up to Toompea by the long leg and down by the short leg, the two streets that divided the nobles from the merchants, past the Danish King's Garden and along the town wall towers. I also walk Kalamaja, the wooden house district by the sea, and Telliskivi, the old railway factories now full of studios and food stalls. My third tour covers Soviet Tallinn: the KGB museum on the top floor of Hotel Viru, the concrete Linnahall and the stories my parents told me about the Singing Revolution. I speak Finnish because half of Helsinki comes over on the ferry every weekend. Now I show Tallinn live on a video call, phone in hand, and I answer questions as they come.
