I have watched surfers ride the standing wave on the Eisbach since I was a teenager, and I still cannot quite explain to newcomers why a landlocked city has its own permanent surf spot. On camera I hold steady on the wave itself, since the water moves fast enough that a shaky shot ruins the whole effect. My second session moves deeper into the English Garden to the Chinese Tower beer garden, where I explain how a wooden pagoda ended up at the centre of one of Europe's largest parks. I keep both sessions relaxed and let the park's own rhythm set the pace.
