Klára Svobodová

Hi, I am Klára. I grew up in Karlín, the old factory district by the river that flooded in 2002 and came back as the prettiest part of Prague. I trained as a chef, cooked for three years at a bistro in Lyon, and came home to find that Czech food had quietly become very good while I was away. I want to show people that it is more than dumplings. We have mushroom soup from forests, open sandwiches that take an hour to make, river fish at Christmas and pastries our grandmothers still argue about. My second passion is architecture: Prague has Cubist buildings you will not find anywhere else in the world, and Art Nouveau cafés that are still in use. I am enthusiastic, maybe too enthusiastic about food, and I will make you try things. I live in Karlín with my boyfriend, who is a baker, which explains a lot. These days I guide Prague live on video: I walk the streets with my phone and answer your questions as we go.
