Kostas Ntountoulakis

I grew up on a fishing boat that still ties up in the old harbour every evening, so the lighthouse at its mouth has marked the end of my working day my whole life. On camera I walk the horseshoe quay first, past the old warehouses now turned into tavernas, then out along the breakwater to the lighthouse itself, built during the island's Egyptian administration. I explain how small this harbour really is compared to Heraklion's, and why that made it easier to defend. I like ending each call looking back at the town from the water, the view fishermen have always known best.
