Samtavro Monastery sits two minutes from my front door, so I have watched the light change on its walls my whole life. I trained as a translator before I became a guide, which is why I like the planning calls almost as much as the live walks, working out a route on a shared map with someone new to Kartli. On video I keep my voice low inside the church since it is still active, and save the talking for the courtyard afterward. What I want people to take from a call with me is a sense of how these small sites still fit into daily life here.
