I have bought cheese from the same stall on 1866 Street since I could walk, and half the vendors still ask about my mother before they ask what I want. On camera I move down the market slowly, showing the butchers, the spice stalls and the barrels of olives, and explaining which cheeses are made just outside the city. Later I take you into Lakkos, once a working quarter and now a strip of grill tavernas, and describe how the neighbourhood changed without losing its old buildings. I describe every smell in detail since the screen cannot carry it.
