I studied Renaissance sculpture, and since the original David lives inside the Accademia where filming is not allowed, I bring viewers to the full-size copy that has stood in Piazza della Signoria on the statue's original spot for well over a century. I explain the story of how the real statue was moved indoors for its protection decades after it was carved. I hold the camera steady on the copy's proportions, since seeing it in its intended outdoor setting says something a museum room cannot. I keep my sessions focused rather than broad.
