Marios Georgiades

I trained as a structural engineer and became fascinated with how Nicosia's star-shaped Venetian walls were designed to withstand cannon fire that never actually came in the way engineers expected. On camera I walk a stretch of the walls first, explaining the geometry behind their pointed bastions, then continue to Famagusta Gate, a restored Venetian gate now used for exhibitions and concerts. I like pointing out which sections of stone are original versus later restoration work. I keep a measured pace along the walls, since the engineering rewards a slower explanation than most walking tours give it.
