I studied nineteenth-century history before I began guiding, and the Völkerschlachtdenkmal is still the building I find most rewarding to explain, given how long it took to build and how much its scale can surprise people on camera. My sessions usually start close to the base before moving inside, so you feel the size of the structure gradually rather than all at once. I also guide a shorter session in the surrounding memorial park for anyone who prefers a quieter, greener view of the same site. I keep a formal, fairly detailed pace and welcome specific historical questions.
