I worked as a waiter at the New York Café for years before guiding on camera from just outside it, since filming isn't practical inside a working restaurant. I explain how the building's ornate interior became a meeting place for writers a century ago. On a second session I walk the Palace District nearby, pointing out grand townhouses now split into flats and offices. I keep a warm pace and welcome detailed questions about either the café's history or the district's architecture.
