I studied bronze casting, so the Baptistery's doors are where I linger longest, camera close on individual panels of Ghiberti's Gates of Paradise while I explain the biblical scene each one depicts. I point out how Ghiberti used different depths of relief within a single panel to create an illusion of distance. My sessions move slowly along the doors rather than covering the whole building quickly, since the detail rewards it. I keep my narration factual rather than dramatic, since the bronze itself does most of the work.
