Mehmet Demirtaş

I was born in Selçuk when the aqueduct storks were already a fixture of the town, and I have watched the Saturday market grow from a handful of stalls to a full street. I worked for years as a caretaker at Isa Bey Mosque before training as a guide, so I know the building better than most. On a video call I like to walk the market stalls slowly, asking sellers what came in that morning, and I turn the phone toward the mosque courtyard when the light through the arches is worth pausing for.
