I was a teenager in Leipzig in 1989, and Nikolaikirche is still the building I find hardest to walk past without stopping, since I remember hearing about the Monday gatherings there before I understood what they meant. On camera I try to explain that history plainly, without turning it into a simple story, since the people involved took real risks without knowing how things would end.
